LibDB1 README ============= Keywords: library, home library, library database, Paradox for Windows V5.0, shareware, books, authors, subject categories. LibDB1 (Library Database 1) is a Shareware library system for the home. Version 1.1 of LibDB1 requires that you have Paradox for Windows V5.0 (PW5) on your system. Thank you for considering LibDB1 for evaluation. To install and run LibDB1: (1) Since you are reading this text, it is assumed that you have already unzipped the LIBDB1.ZIP file and that you have all the LibDB1 files on a diskette or on a hard drive. (2) To install LibDB1, you will require about 1.3 MB on your hard drive. (3) Start up your Windows. (4) From the Program Manager click on the menu option FILE and then RUN. The command that you will have to enter has the following format: x:\ssssss\INSTALL x is the drive (A, B, C, etc.) where the unzipped LibDB1 files are, and ssssss stands for the subdirectory name you have used for the unzipped files, and INSTALL is the program that does the installation Example 1: If you have the unzipped files in the root directory on a floppy disk in drive A, then the command line should look like A:\INSTALL Example 2: If your unzipped files are on drive C in a directory called TEMPLIB then the command line should be C:\TEMPLIB\INSTALL (5) When INSTALL is completed, you will have a new Program Group called LibDB1. To start the library system, double click on the LibDB1 icon (a stack of books). (6) LibDB1 is Shareware. Please read the following topics in the LibDB1 HELP file: OVERVIEW DISCLAIMER & AGREEMENT REGISTRATION The LibDB1 system comes pre-loaded with a few authors and books. Use this small library database to test drive LibDB1; browse the subject, author and book tables, try to delete an author, and print some of the available reports. Once you are comfortable with the system, delete first the books and then the authors -- at least those authors you don’t have in your library. You might prefer to use the Paradox utility EMPTY to delete all the BOOKS and AUTHORS records from the sample database: from the Paradox menu click on TOOLS / UTILITIES / EMPTY. In order to EMPTY the BOOKS and AUTHORS tables you will need a password; use insdel. This password (insdel) will also allow you to use the raw Paradox Edit facilities (F9) for updating BOOKS and AUTHORS. I hope that LibDB1 will be as useful for you and your family as it has been for me. Regards, P. K. Winter, Toronto
